On 23rd April 2006 as the former BJP leader, the late Pramod Mahajan was fighting a losing battle in a Hospital in Mumbai, this blogger had written the following in a post titled “The Law of Unintended Consequences“.
The Law of Unintended Consequences operates in mysterious ways.
If indeed Pramod returns to active politics from the jaws of death, he would have achieved the impossible. If indeed that were to happen in this day and age of 24×7 saturation coverage by news and media, this might very well be a blessing in disguise.
The 24×7 news coverage of this incident and his recovery would have established the Pramod Mahajan brand as a serious contender in the 2009 elections.
If unfortunately fate were to play villain, the body blow on the BJP would be quite severe. Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj are not quite the organizational strategists and it might very well pave the way for that dark horse Narendra Modi.
While the trigger for the Offstumped Blogging saga in 2004-2005 was the media bias against Narendra Modi, it was not until 2007 that this blogger had taken serious note of the political change he was ushering in. This August 2007 blog post marked the first serious tracking of Narendra Modi’s political trajectory ahead of the 2007 Gujarat Assembly elections.
The rest as they say is history. As of last count the category Narendra Modi on the Offstumped Blog marks just over 95 blog posts over a 6 year period – a mini chronicle of sorts.
During these six years this blog saw the debate shape and intensify on the idea of Narendra Modi culminating today with Narendra Modi’s ascent today as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP led NDA.
